This spring my kids have noticed we have our very own yard snake. This little Eastern garter snake seems to live under the stumps in our yard. It peeks its little head out from beneath the stumps to see what we are doing when we are near the area, but not “too close.” Some days it will sit out on top of the stumps and sun itself.
This isn’t the first snake that we found in our lawn. It is a little smaller that the one that was around last year. Smaller and much bolder. I once was trying to take a picture of it from my cellphone, and instead of slithering away, it came forward and looked into my phone. The kids want it to come in the house to be a pet. I have convinced them that it should be a yard snake instead. Hopefully, that will keep the snake and the kids happy.
