For Christmas, a friend got me a bunch of new types of tea to try. My favorite was a box of Girnar Kesari Masala (Spice) Tea. While I like some Chia, the blend of ginger, pepper and Cardamom (heavy on the Cardamom) was really great. After buying a few boxes of tea bags, I decided to look for some of this tea in loose leaf. I got really excited when I found a bag online for a really good price.
I have always been a tea drinker. At some point in my early twenties I decided that if I was going to be a “tea drinker,” then I should probably move past putting a tea bag in mug.
Right now I have at least ten types of premium tea’s from small, ethical importers in my cupboard. Most are great (honestly one stinks), but last week I ran out my “house tea” and I was lost. My wife thinks this is crazy. How can someone have so much tea, and still feel like they need more? My “house tea” is the famous Canadian Red Rose Tea, and the tea that I have been drinking since childhood.
One of my first forays into quality, organic, and fair trade tea was a company called The Little Red Cup out of Brunswick, Maine. Not only did it taste great, but it also eased some of my guilt for loving something that was seeped in Imperial baggage. (Yes that was an attempt at a a bad pun.)
I feel it is time to admit I have a problem. I like to have a few drinks every night… well if I am being honest I start drinking before work, and only stop when I go to sleep. I am not really sure what the Surgeon General’s recommended consumption level is, but since I measure my intake in gallons instead of glasses or ounces, I am sure I am over the limit.
