Today was a perfect day to play outside in the snow. Overnight, and in the early morning we got that rare fluffy snow that settles like eider down on the ground. Later in the morning the temperature started rise so that it became the perfect packy snow for snow men, and also warm enough to play outside without freezing off your checks (either set).
Well that was true until I laid in the snow to make snow angels. Cold dry snow may have worked better for that, but even after getting a wet bottom there was still a lot of fun to me had.
We made a giant snowman that was taller than my daughter. She liked him so much that we even made a snow hat for his head. We then decided to make a bunch of snowbabies. I don’t know if she lost interest, or if it says something about my artistic ability, but the snowbabies became bowling pins. They did not last long enough to get pictures.
I was then commissioned to build a giant igloo, thanks Curious George. We did not have snow for that… but I did make a decent size snow grotto. My daughter was happy, so I was happy. I was surprised how long she played inside. Meanwhile I was sent to the porch since it was “daddy’s house.”
After suggesting hot chocolate we had one last adventure. When we walked around the house we noticed one large, and one small set of foot prints. We decided that they were from a daddy and baby dinosaur and trailed them back to the front door. Once inside we found the mommy dinosaur had actually made hot chocolate… though daddy was sent back outside to shovel the driveway before he got his.
Post Script…
Sadly, by 5:00 the snowman had melted enough that he tipped over. I was assured by my daughter that that was “ok” because she would help me build another one some other day. I thought that was very kind.
