On today’s walk the kids found a Garter snake. First, I was proud of the kids for seeing it on their own. Second, I was proud that they kept their distance while looking at it, while not reacting with fear. It is nice to know that they actually listen. We got a great view of this cool reptile. After we gave it a little room, it went from the lawn to the woods. The kids really wanted to follow, but they restrained themselves.
My daughter was excited to tell us all about the mealworms that her first grade class is raising at school. She knew it was a kind of bug larva, but she figured it would grow up to be a type of moth. I figured I would let her find out in class that it will actually be a beetle. It is hard not to play the “expert,” but I want her to take charge of her learning. So dad bit his tongue. I just hope she continues to be excited about bugs.
