Michigan is drownings in rain right now. Our lawn is green, and our mushrooms are large. It is hard to get out in nature for walks. So today I took the time to sit with the kids on the porch during a thunderstorm. I sat in our rocking chair, and they tried to put their little feet in the rain as it fell from the eaves. It was not a large thing, but in part I did it so the kids will not be afraid of thunder and lightning. It also gave me quality time with each kid.
We didn’t talk about anything in particular, but we did talk. Some was silly, some was deep. We breathed in the air and smelled the rain. They also got to wiggle their little feet in the rain. It was a fun day. They enjoyed watching the thunder and lightning from the security of our porch.
I hope they will not be frightened of it in the future. I also hope that even if they don’t remember anything we talked about that they will remember that they spoke with me. My dad was their for me as a child, and I hope that they remember me there for them as they grow.
