The weather is starting to break, and it is starting to feel a lot like spring here in Michigan. Not only is it warming up, but the birds are coming back, and baby animals are starting to be born. We were lucky enough to see a few lambs this past week. It made a pretty big impression on the kids. So much so, that the boys were lambs for a day instead of dinosaurs. That was a nice change of pace.
The boys were running around on all fours, bleating. Other families probably thought that we were crazy, but I am ok with that. Lambs are cute, and they were not the only ones who could feel spring in the air. The ground was still probably cleaner than some places they have had their hands, and they got some good exercise. I didn’t take pictures of them, just enjoyed their frolicking.
The daffodils are also starting to bloom. Their yellow feels like rays of the sun. It warms your eyes if not your hands. It is truly one of the signs that really makes it seem like spring is here. I can’t wait for more flowers to break through the ground, but for right now they make a world of difference. The yellow against the grey-greens and browns of last years foliage is striking.
Each day I can see the growth in my children. Like the spring, they are also blooming. Part of me is excited to see what they will grow into, they can’t keep playing lambs and dinosaurs for the rest of their lives, but I don’t want to rush their growth either. Like the daffodils I am just happy to see their burning joy that brightens an otherwise dark spring. I know they will have hardships, but not today. Today, they are my little lambs.
