When we first bought our house a few years ago, one of the things I wanted to set up is a home altar. In my mind I was imagining something along the lines of the Gothic Revival piece below.
Well that didn’t happen. What we did do was re-purposed a small shelf, and decided to keep an eye out for something to upgrade it down the road. Aesthetically it might not be what I was dreaming about, but it serves it’s function. Honestly when I am praying I am not thinking about the white metal framework.
The original installment was in an extra bedroom that we had, but as our family has expanded it is now located in our master bedroom. We decided that this was a good location since it is still part of the families communal living space (do parents really have privet spaces?) but it also has a door that we can shut if we want an attempt at silence. The door also helps keep most of the religious articles from becoming toys for a two year old.
I will break down the parts of the altar in later posts.
