We are lucky enough to live minutes away from a 4,481 acres park that not only offers wooded trails to walk on, but also a little farm. Now that the weather has broken, we try to go there as often as we can. One day this week my daughter only had a half day at school, so we took the opportunity to pack as much adventure into the day as possible.
Our first stop was to the farm to see if there were any new baby animals. We were in luck to find kids, lambs, and piglets. While they were a lot of fun, we also enjoyed the adult pigs, all of which my one son wanted to name “Stink-Stink,” the draft horses, and the sheep… which for some reason he also wanted to name “Stink-Stink.” We also got a chance to look at how maple syrup is made. I enjoyed this as much as the kids.
We also wanted to go for a short walk in the woods. While this time of year is not as stunning as when it is summery green, or winter white, I do think there is a beauty to it. We were lucky enough to find some young skunk cabbage, and buds building to spring. We also saw some wildlife. Deer and wild turkeys kept their distance, much to our sorrow. We did have better luck with song birds, sandhill cranes, and a swan swimming in a pond. Not bad for a quick trip to the farm and a walk in the woods.
