I have posted about our Flemish Giants before. Our beautiful rabbits are still growing, and growing in our hearts. They are larger than our cats, and the four of them are becoming friends. Though each species seems to think the other is strange. Our kids are also becoming “experts” who actively advocate for their furry friends. (NOTE: Since they are only 3, 4, and 6 I really don’t follow said advice, but I am glad they are trying.)
Since we don’t want little rabbits running around, we got both of our rabbits altered. Now that they can be together, they get to spend much more time outside of their cages, which improves their quality of life. Having owned rabbits before, it is not a surprise how affectionate of an animal they are… but it warms my heart to see how affectionate our Flemish Giants can be.
The female, named Elinor after the lead character in PBS show Elinor Wonders Why, is a real mischief maker. Mr. Bouncer, named after Benjamin Bunny’s father from the Beatrix Potter books, is a real cuddler. While the kids helped pick out the rabbit’s names, for some reason they liked the idea of Old Mr. Bouncer from the Tale of Mr. Tod, in which Bouncer falls asleep and lets the baby bunnies get taken by the badger, instead of from Benjamin Bunny where he is kind of the hero. Maybe it is a good thing he is fixed.
