This last week, we went on another Bug Safari. We saw a lot of insects, but some moved too fast for little watcher. Some were old friends. The top prize was, a female Elfin Skimmer who sat in the grass for at least five minutes. We didn’t know what she was at the time, other than a beautiful dragonfly.
I snapped a bunch of photos. A few turned out. So when we got home we went to one of our dragonfly identification books and started looking. My old Dragonflies of the North Woods, 2nd Edition is our go to book for dragonflies, (there is a newer addition). The kids were excited when we found the photo of the Elfin Skimmer. I think I correctly cross checked it correctly with our Dragonflies and Damselflies of the East. Please correct me if I am wrong.
