One of the best Covid-19 parenting moves I made is creating the game of Canyon Ball. To be honest, my children and I created it together. On one of our early Covid walks, my children and I found some abandoned lacrosse balls laying in the field behind our neighborhood school. Kids being kids, they begged to pick them up and “take them for a walk.”
Now we all know you can’t take balls for a walk, without the said balls just begging to be thrown. So the kids and I found a dedicated bus drive, that was not in use , and made this into our “Canyon.” A Canyon that little kids could throw a ball and the shape of the curbs would keep the ball on a narrow path. Also a Canyon where a dad could stand and make sure no vehicles were driving and endangering his children.
Canyon Ball is basically my kids throwing a ball down a road and chancing it. My kids love this game. I don’t understand why. Yet they bet to play it all of the time. I don’t really mind either. We didn’t buy the ball. Then there is the fact that we pay fees to play. It is a great deal.
